~Summer Camps
A little about me-
I hold degrees from SCC and UNCC. I have spent nearly 30 years in education, spending that time working in Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools, Union County Public Schools, the private school setting, homeschool and as a private tutor. Although I have taught many subjects, I’ve had the privilege of mostly working with students in the area of literacy. This is the area that I’m very passionate about and understand the struggles well. I once looked at my own dyslexia as a disability, but later I discovered it was a huge ability I was blessed with and because of my uniqueness I can understand and better help others. I aim to help students build their confidence and skill in a fun, stress-free, hands-on environment. My philosophy is to build confidence first, then the skill.
I have most recently added Mindfulness and Forest Therapy to my list of services. I have practiced and taught these for 4 years now and am certified in Mindfulness through YogaRenew, along with Forest Therapy through Treeming. Nature offers us so much if we allow ourselves to slow down and de-stress. Nature has been proven to help relax learners. I tend to let nature help me provide a perfect learning environment whenever possible.
Today’s world can be very difficult to navigate for our youth. They have so many negative distractions coming at them. I aim to reach as many youth as possible to help them obtain healthy coping skills.
When not teaching, you can find me spending time with my family and friends, traveling, reading, chasing sunsets, and hiking somewhere among the trees!
